The Prospect

About

Baseball. America’s game. But to some it’s more than a game, it’s life itself. “The Prospect” is the story of a college baseball pitcher about to turn pro, causes a traffic accident, injures himself, his girlfriend and an elderly couple, loses the major league baseball contract he’d just signed with the Minnesota Twins and worse, his self-respect. Abandoned by his injured and angry girlfriend, disowned by the father that sacrificed everything to give his talented son a chance to play major league baseball, the Prospect, who no longer has any prospects, runs away from his failures until he stumbles across a retired military officer/cattle rancher that not only seems to have all life’s answers at his fingertips, he also knows how to coax a young man back into believing in himself. But is it too late for the Prospect? Can he put his life, and his dream, back on track?

The Minnesota Twins, in the meantime, are having problems of their own; the team hasn’t been winning, player morale is nonexistent, attendance is low, revenue is down and a plot is being hatched to “contract” the failing ball club out of existence. But the Twins eccentric general manager gets wind of the scheme and enlists the aid of a washed-up sports reporter and a former Hall of Fame pitcher, now the team manager, in a counter-plot to save the Twins. Despite their efforts the odds seem stacked against the odd trio and the counter-plotters soon realize what they need to save the ball club is a player capable of inspiring both the team and the fans. In short: they need a Prospect.
